WHAT IS PEYRONIE’S DISEASE
Peyronie’s disease is a curvature of the penis caused by scar tissue on one side of the penis. This condition can affect a man at any age.
WHAT CAUSES PEYRONIE’S?
The causes of Peyronie’s vary, yet are not always known. Trauma to the penis, which causes internal bleeding and scar (or plaque) formation is the most common cause; however, the trauma can be very mild and go unnoticed at the time. Other theories involve a genetic risk.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF PEYRONIE’S?
When the penis is erect, the hardened plaque will cause the penis to bend or curve. This curvature can cause pain and interfere with a man’s ability to have sexual intercourse.
HOW DO I TREAT PEYRONIE’S?
Up until this point, there were very few effective treatment options for Peyronie’s Disease. Medications have been tried, both orally (Pentoxifylline) and injected directly into the plaque (Verapamil or Xiaflex), which do not tend to be very effective, and pose risk for penile fracture. A final option is surgery to remove the plaque or surgery to alter the tissue on the opposite side of the penis, called the Nesbit procedure. Side effects of these treatments include issues with erectile dysfunction and shortening of the penis.

WHAT IS PRP
PRP, or platelet rich plasma, is a technology used in orthopedic surgery over the last decade to treat musculoskeletal injuries. Over 7,000 papers have been published speaking to the efficacy of PRP in healing tissue. A small amount of blood is drawn from the arm. Using a centrifuge, the we isolate platelets from your blood (platelet rich plasma, or PRP), all within about 15 minutes in the office. The platelets are then “activated” to release at least eight growth factors that would normally be used to heal injured tissue. These growth factors work like magic to cause increased collagen, blood flow, and break down the hardened plaque causing the curvature.
